Who’s a fan of Mayonnaise? To be honest, I only use it occasionally but my husband loves it.
Traditional mayo is usually made of soybean oil, along with a host of additives and preservatives. Searching for a better option, I decided to make my own homemade version. Typical mayo recipes were complicated and timely and I had a few fail until I found my hand stick blender! I am a busy Mum, so I’m all for recipes where you throw it all in, hassle free. This mayo recipe is just that!!
The advantages of homemade mayonnaise are: you can make it for cheaper than you can buy, it taste better and you can make your own with healthier oils and no sugar or artificial ingredients.
A little more on oil…
The main ingredient in mayo is actually oil, so if you’re going to eat mayonnaise you need to be aware of what sort of oil you’re consuming. Read this article to learn more about which oils are good to cook with and which should be avoided. Rather than canola oil or soybean oil, use olive oil in your homemade mayonnaise. You’ll be getting the benefits of Omega-3. Yes, olive oil is high in fat…but it’s the good kind, so you may as well put those calories to work for you!
